Living out our faith

What is faith? Many will refer to certain verses, such as 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV), because we live by faith, not by sight. Christian faith can be understood as actively trusting God while believing in His existence and that of His Son Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, without depending on circumstances or visible evidence.

But how do we live out our faith daily? By building a personal relationship with God, we can develop it in a concrete way. Here are 4 ways to do just that:

1. First of all, reading the Bible is the best way to get to know God, while drawing inspiration from biblical characters who lived their faith despite life circumstances that were not always favourable. By taking Jesus as our model, we learn to navigate through life’s ups and downs.

2. Secondly, praying enables us to communicate with God whether to rejoice, express our frustration, or acknowledge our mistakes. It can take many forms, from words spoken alone or in a group, to words written in a journal or on a computer.

3. Taking the time to reflect on how God’s presence and Word manifest themselves in our lives is also a way of nourishing our faith daily. This can be done through the arts, a nature walk, a trip, or even over a meal.

4. What’s more, we need community to deepen our relationship with God. By joining a local church or even a Bible study group, we can not only grow in our faith, but also be encouraged in more difficult times.

Living out our faith daily simply means putting Jesus’s teachings into practice every day towards others and ourselves to reflect God’s love in the world.
