“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19, NIV).
For many, the word evangelism brings to mind pressure, fear, or images of grand events and eloquent preachers. But at its heart, evangelism is simply sharing the good news of Jesus. And that good news is too precious to keep to ourselves.
The small, ordinary moments of life—running errands, chatting with colleagues, visiting with friends—are opportunities for God to work through us. If every believer embraced this natural way of witnessing, families, communities, and generations would be changed.
For many people, fall is a season of fresh starts, with new routines launching and door opening. Why not make the most of these opportunities to share Christ with the people around you?
Here are seven practical ways to do just that:
1. Pray
Prayer sets everything in motion. Pray to recognize opportunities to speak about Jesus. Pray for courage, for discernment, for words of grace. Then take a step further—offer to pray with someone who is hurting or uncertain. Whether or not they fully understand the power of prayer, they will not forget the love and faith you shared with them.
2. Converse
God often works through ordinary conversations. A simple question about life, values, or faith can open a door to a deeper connection. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and attentive to what the other person needs. Then, as Paul encourages us to do in Colossians 4:6 (NIV), pray that your words will be “always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone”.
3. Share your testimony
Each of us carries a unique story of God’s grace. Whether it is dramatic or rather straight-forward, your testimony is a living witness of Jesus’ power to transform people. Remember, it isn’t about presenting a flawless life but about sharing, honestly and humbly, what Christ has done in you. In God’s hands, your story may be exactly what someone needs to hear.
4. Extend an invitation
A simple invitation can open the door to faith. Whether it’s to church, a small group meeting, or even coffee with a few Christian friends, these moments create space for someone to experience community and the love of Jesus. The power isn’t in the invitation itself, but in what God chooses to do through it.
5. Share a Christian resource
The Bible says that God’s word is never void: “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11, NIV). God can use any resource—a Bible verse, a worship song, an article, a book, even a short video—to touch hearts and spark hope.
6. Explain the Gospel
Romans 10:14 (NIV) asks: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” God invites us to carry his message, even though we are flawed. His good news is unchanging and complete: through Jesus, we are reconciled with God and can receive forgiveness, peace and eternal life.
7. Lead someone to Christ
If a person is ready to welcome Jesus into their life, invite them to pray. Suggest a simple prayer such as: “Jesus, I believe you died for my sins and rose again. Forgive me, lead me, and fill me with your Spirit.” Few moments in your life will be more meaningful than those spent helping a person begin their journey with Christ.
Sharing our faith should never feel heavy; it is an invitation to join God in the work he is already doing. Our role is simply to live out our love for Jesus and for others. As this season of new beginnings unfolds, may we step forward with prayerful hearts, open hands, and authentic words—allowing Christ’s light to transform hearts, one person at a time.
